Description
The National Arts Centre: A Unique Institution in North America: Abstract
The National Arts Centre is a Canadian arts institution whose mandate is to foster artistic excellence in all disciplines of the performing arts. After enjoying a prosperous period in the years following its creation, the NAC was plunged into a major crisis that undermined both its artistic quality and its identity, reaching a peak at the turn of the century. It was at this point that a new President and Chief Executive Officer was appointed in the person of Peter Herrndorf. He was able to provide the necessary momentum to restore the NAC to its former glory, notably by implementing a strategic plan for the Centre.
In 2006, it was time for the management team to take stock of the first plan, to assess the results achieved and to develop a second strategic plan based on the successes and the adjustments needed to improve its position in areas where the NAC was still falling short of stakeholders’ expectations.
