Emmanuelle Guérin’s Rocky Start as a Project Manager: Abstract

This thought-provoking case seeks to generate discussion around project team support. It does so through the experience of Emmanuelle Guérin, a 26 year-old woman who has been asked to lead a project team. She must deal with, among other things, a lack of support from her superior and pressing demands from the client. The first days in her new role are recounted through her diary entries. The case ends just as Emmanuelle Guérin is summoned by Paule Sinclair, her superior, who is unhappy after having received complaints from an important client. This case was inspired by the Who’s in Charge? film (London, Video Arts, 1978), which deals with the difficult and conflicting reports between a new foreman, his team and the business owner.
