Martin Revheim, Blå and the Kongsberg Jazz Festival: Suksess Need Not Be Translated: Abstract

This case study takes a closer look at the work of Martin Revheim, director since 2002 of the Kongsberg Jazz Festival (KJF) in Norway. In a city of 23,000, the festival sld 13,000 tickets in 2005 while maintaining its reputation amongst music aficionados of featuring the best musicians available. The local ownership of the KJF is extremely strong as the size of its volunteer staff (300 people) illustrates it. Before becoming the festival’s leader, Martin Revheim co-founded Blå. Over the time, Blå has become an irreplaceable part of Oslo’s vibrant music scene, the most forward-looking of the Continent. This qualitative study aims at understanding the managing work of Martin Revheim both at Blå and the KJF.
