Description

Trucking Wellness: An Industry’s Response to Managing HIV/AIDS: Abstract

Trucking Wellness: An Industry’s Response to Managing HIV/AIDS is a case study by Stephanie Townsend and Conrad Viedge.

In 2012, South Africa still had one of the highest prevalences of HIV/AIDS in the world. In 2011, 10.6% of the total population and 16.6% of the adult population (people between 15 and 49 years of age) were HIV positive. This paper examines the response of the South African trucking industry, a sector where employees were particularly at risk of contracting the virus, and one of its attempts to curtail the spread of HIV amongst its employees.

Teaching objectives

This document was written to provide an example of what one industry is doing in response to the spread of HIV/Aids in South Africa and to generate discussion about how other industries and companies could do something similar.
