This case study reviews the contrasting managerial and philosophical styles of two forest product companies located in the State of Oregon, U.S.A. By nature, the forest products industry can be capital intensive, highly competitive, and prone to fluctuating economic cycles. Despite the sometimes perplexing and difficult nature of the industry, the two companies investigated have proven to be competitive in the industry. Moreover, both of these firms have developed considerably different business approaches, particularly with regard to perspective on the industry, views on innovation and entrepreneurship, product and market strategies, approach to strategic planning, and employee management.
