Description

Bolloré Logistics Canada and the Use of Incoterms in International Marine Shipping: Abstract

Bolloré Logistics Canada is an international freight forwarder located in Saint-Laurent, Quebec. It is part of the transportation and logistics division of the Bolloré Group, a French multinational headed by the Bolloré family. Freight forwarders provide transport solutions to their clients by coordinating the modes of transportation used, customs clearance and documentation, port handling, and supervision of all shipping aspects. The case looks at the role of Marc Gagnon, a new recruit in Bolloré Logistics Canada’s sea freight export department. Three different clients have asked him for solutions to their transport needs. Each request corresponds to a different situation (transport of mining equipment to New Caledonia, of pharmaceuticals to Chile, and of circus materials for a show in Greece), and each context requires the use of a specific Incoterm (version 2020, as defined by the International Chamber of Commerce) along with an accurate quote. All three situations are described in detail. The characteristics of the buyer and the seller, of their respective business, of their relationship, of the merchandise, and of the final destination are provided.
